Coloring Comic art

So what's happening with the emag with the neverending story turned into comic. is it neverending too?

Upto now I've drawn around 50 scenes and inked them. Now comes the part when I scan em and color em. Wish I came across these sites before. gives loads of tips on how to draw, ink, colour. the whole process.

What I hate about drawing for long periods of time is actually A good thing. Eg: During a 3 hour drawing session they quality of my drawings when I finish are way better than the artwork when I started. So should I be going back and drawing the initial scenes all over again???

Drawing Cars and People

the 1st thing I ever drew was a car. After completing robertsons video tutorials on how to draw cars i was compelled to learn this completely and not like a misfit. here's a another good tutorial about not just drawing cars. from drawing the car to preparing the blueprint to modeling it. the complete process. Drawing methods

These are some drawing methods or rather processes are came across that some renowned CG artists use. Most are a combination of using 3d and drawing so you get the best of both worlds.


Drawing cars and technical objects

This is a purely drawing method. on paper and penceil. Its particularly good for cars, buildings and mechanical objects rather than bio objects. you must have a good understanding of point perspective for this.

1. Establish plane on 1,2,3 point perspective
   
2. Draw wheel base on close side
   
3. Draw wheel base on further side using the b4 side as a reference
   
4. Join wheels and make cylinder
   
5. Find the centre point of the car
   

Draw the side silhuette of the car along the centre point

















Drawing overlay method
This method is good for those who are used to doing their artwork on paper. The bad part is the lighting could go wrong if you arent good at lighting. However the out come of this kind of drawing is more authentic and home grown.

1. Draw the the whole picture on paper with detail and lighting. draw with precise lines.
   
2. Scan your pic and open it up on photoshop
   
3. Set your image to overlay. create new layers below and above.
   
4. Color the base colors below in a water-color like way.
   
5. Add detail on another layer. still below the main overlay
   
6. Keep adding details with layers using this bottom up approach
   
7. In the layer above the main overlay add atmospheric effects like light,smoke.

Drawing with reference lighting method

In this method, a rough 3d scene will be done with approxmate basic shapes and lighting. this will be used as a reference to get the lighting right. Compare to the previous method, This method is somewhat more reliable than the previous method as you can be sure to get the lighting right. however, you should know the basics of a 3d software to do this.

1. Draw pencil scetch in line art


2. Do seperate detailed character scetches of each character and object


3. Do a 3D scene with rough shapes and lighting. this is to get the lighting right


4. Now that you got the light right start coloring the line art. but do this in seperate layers


5. Do shadows and fog in seperate layers


6. Spend extra time to add detail


7. Adjust colors and fine tune.

Carving out model method

In this method a basic model of the object is created on a 3D modeling program and the rendered image is used at a starting point to work on. This method is especially good for mechanical objects and buildings

1. Make a rough 3d model of the object you are working on using basic shapes


2. Render with lighting. output an image


3. Put the image into photoshop and shape it up.


4. Add detail in the shape


5. Add colors and shading of the object


6. Add paint faded and wear and tear

Perspective Basics

I didnt know such a method or theory or whatever you call it existed. actually when i drew something this happened at an unconsious level. but knowning this theory the finish and quality of the drawings can be greatly increased.

Usually there's 1 perspective, 2 perspective and 3 perspective. usuallly coz there's 3 dimentions. but the number is limitless.

Poses, a bit of anatomy and drama

Came across this awsome site, where you can draw stuff online, show it on a speed drawing vid and even get rated. It has some great tutorials too. on drawing. amoung them i came across this.

Upto now I wasnt sure how to properly use the little mannequin thats on my desk. now I do :D!!!

PS: On important note, since I've done drama I need to remind myself that I can use that knowledge and experience to plan how the scenes should arranged be, which poses will look best in them, lighting, props, etc. I never realized that my drama will come in useful for this
